Black Friday sales kicked off across Canada early this year, with all major airlines offering numerous discounts on flights from Vancouver International Airport (YVR).
While it traditionally markets the start of the winter holiday shopping season south of the border, the annual retail phenomenon has taken off in Canada, too.
This year, Black Friday falls on Nov. 24. However, many retailers - including Canadian airlines - launched their offers early or plan to extend it several days after the "official" date.
Have a look at some of the best deals on flights and holiday packages available for Vancouver travellers to buy this year through Canadian carriers.
Air Canada
Canada's largest airline is offering discounts on travel between Nov. 27 and June 30, 2024. There are several low-cost Air Canada flights from Vancouver, including a one-way ticket to Kelowna starting at $82. Tickets must be booked by Nov. 26 to take advantage of the offer.
Other discounted options include the popular Air Canada Vacations packages. Travellers can save on select vacation packages to Mexico, the Caribbean and more until Nov. 23.
Sunwing
Vancouver travellers can enjoy Sunwing packages for over 50 per cent off the regular price as part of the travel company's annual Black Friday Deals sale.
Travellers can save up to $1,500 per pair on all-inclusive packages at popular sun destinations across Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean for travel between Dec. 14 and April 3, 2024.
There are several great deals departing from Vancouver, including ones from Cuba, Cancun, and other spots on Mexico's Pacific Coast, such as Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Los Cabos.
Tickets must be booked by Nov. 26 to take advantage of the discounted prices.
WestJet
The WestJet Black Friday Sale kicked off ahead of American Thanksgiving, with its discounted options released Monday, Nov. 20, and running through Friday, Nov. 26 at 10:59 p.m.
The sale on travel to all destinations between Nov. 20 and June 20, 2024, provided they are on wholly WestJet-operated flights (this means there can't be another airline on the itinerary). Also, there are no blackout dates, meaning customers can enjoy discounted prices on flights during busy travel periods and over holidays.
Some featured flights from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) start for under $99 including all taxes and fees.
Flair Airlines
Unlike Canada's other major airlines, Flair's sales actually kick off on Friday. The airline has different offers for four days of discounted flights.
- Black Friday Bonanza - Friday, Nov. 24: Flights start for just $19 as part of the first day of the sale. Folks who join the exclusive Flair Flyer's Club will enjoy savings of up to 50 per cent off on all flights scheduled between Jan.9 and Feb.14, 2024.
- Transborder Treats - Thursday, Nov. 25: Flights start at $19 again but there are also special offers on transborder flights for people who sign up to be Flair Flyer Club members. Customers can get a 25 per cent discount on flights departing between Jan. 9, 2024, and April 30, 2024.
- Sun-Soaked Escapes - Nov. 26: Flights start at $19 and there is also 25 per cent off flights to Mexico, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic between Jan. 9 and April 30, 2024, for Flair Flyers Club members.
- Cyber Monday Special - Nov. 27: Flights start at $19 and Flair Flyers Club members can enjoy 2o er cent off flights departing between Jan. 9 and April 30, 2024, to any destination.
