Canada's ultra-low-cost carrier just announced a new feature that will offer travellers protection when faced with flight disruptions.
Flair Airlines has come under fire in the past few years due to the number of complaints its customers filed with the Canada Transportation Agency (CTA).
Many travellers expressed concerns after their flights were cancelled at the eleventh hour from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and the airline failed to offer compensation to them or a viable alternative.
On Tuesday, Dec. 12, Flair announced that it has teamed up with HTS (Hopper Technology Solutions) to offer its customers a Disruption Guarantee, which acts like a sort of flight insurance.
Travellers will have to purchase the product when they make a new booking. When faced with a flight disruption, they will be able to book themselves on a new flight or get a cash refund in circumstances where passengers who did not buy the guarantee cannot.
In the event of a cancelled flight or flight delay of two hours or more, customers will have the additional opportunity to choose between the following options:
- New Flight Option: Passengers have the choice to book a new flight on any airline for the same day or the next day. This assists passengers in reaching their intended destinations without undue delay.
- Full Refund: Passengers who are not satisfied with their rebooking options on other airlines receive a full refund equal to the original cost of the flight.
“We see a growing concern about disruptions in the market — the associated costs for travelers extend beyond financial implications, encompassing stress, anxiety, and valuable time lost,” said Ella Alkalay Schreiber, general manager of financial technology at HTS, in a press release.
“Disruption Guarantee by HTS offers Flair’s customers peace of mind and a worry-free experience when booking and taking their trips.”
Flair has grown significantly in recent years and covers dozens of cities across Canada, the U.S., Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica.
Customers can check their Flair Airlines flight status online before they head to the airport. The Disruption Guarantee is available to passengers as an add-on when booking through Flyflair.
