Thanks to the way it is priced on the Japan Airlines ticket, a multi-stop itinerary from Vancouver that includes a stop in Hanoi, Vietnam, and Tokyo, Japan, before returning home costs hundreds of dollars less than a return ticket to Japan on its own.
Return trips to Narita International Airport (NRT) in Tokyo from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) typically cost between $1,750 to $2,400, according to Google Flights. That said, there are some considerably cheaper return trips on dates commencing in May 2023, including a couple of tickets that cost just over $1,200 round-trip with one stop in each direction.
For travellers looking to explore South East Asia, there are several inexpensive tickets to Noi Bai International Airport (HAN) in Hanoi, too. Starting in January, return trips from YVR start for as little as $1,100. On select dates in September, however, round-trip tickets cost just under $800.
In September 2023, some multi-stop itineraries from Vancouver to Tokyo and Hanoi cost as little as $800 which is less than the price of visiting either destination on its own at this time.
For example, on one cheap ticket, a flight departs Vancouver on Sept. 19 and makes one stop in Tokyo en route to Hanoi. On Oct. 1, there is a direct flight from Hanoi to Tokyo, and then the final leg of the journey is a direct flight from Tokyo to Vancouver on Oct. 16.
