Zipair is increasing flights from Vancouver to Japan this summer.
Locals can enjoy direct service between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Tokyo Narita International Airport (NRT) five times weekly starting on July 23 and continuing through Oct. 26.
The Tokyo-based carrier currently offers flights thrice weekly service on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Starting on Tuesday, July 23, the airline will also offer flights on Tuesdays and Fridays.
Flights depart YVR at 10:45 a.m. and arrive in NRT at 12:25 p.m. the following day. On the return, flights depart NRT at 3:40 p.m. and arrive in YVR at 8:45 a.m.
After its flight on Saturday, Oct. 26, the carrier does not have flights posted between the two cities.
Zipair says it decided to increase the number of flights it offers between YVR and NRT due to "strong travel demand." It has not stated whether it will provide service on the route through the late fall and winter months.
Cheaper flights on the Vancouver to Japan route
Thanks to the increased service on the popular route, travellers can enjoy low-cost options on several dates over the summer.
Zipair, which is owned by Japan's flagship carrier, Japan Airlines (JAL), started selling tickets on its new Vancouver in late December 2023, offering prices starting at a jaw-dropping $680 including tax for round-trip, direct flights.
While flights don't commence until March, tickets for nearly all dates through the month are nearly sold out. But with the introduction of extra travel dates, travellers can enjoy lower prices on flights during the summer.
Tickets start as low as $403 for direct flights from YVR. This price is about $300 cheaper than usual, according to Google Flights.
Zipair currently provides service between the Japanese capital and several cities across the United States, including Honolulu, San Francisco, San Jose, and Los Angeles. It also flies to major destinations across Asia including South Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand.
