Vancouver travellers can get deals on flights from two of Canada's top airlines right now.
WestJet and Porter have discounts on numerous flights as part of two June fare sales. Multiple routes from Vancouver and Abbotsford (for WestJet only) connect to destinations across Canada, the United States, and worldwide.
Flights from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) include popular routes to Toronto, Los Angeles, Calgary, London, England, Miami, and many others.
WestJet
Canada's second-largest airline is offering discounted flights as part of its Father's Day Sale. The sale promotion applies to over 100 destinations, including cities in Canada, south of the border, and globally.
The sale applies to travel in any fare class, including UltraBasic, Econo, Premium, and Business, from June 10, 2024, to Feb. 28, 2025, and has no blackout dates.
Tickets must be booked by June 17 at 10:59 p.m.
WestJet has a handy pricing chart built into its date selection prompt. Click on the calendar next to the entry field and look at the window to see dates with a little ticket indicating a sale price.
For example, travellers can find numerous discounted tickets from Vancouver to Los Angeles in November. However, a quick scroll through the calendar shows largely inflated prices over the summer with only a few discounted dates (see slide two).
Before you book a ticket, ensure you are familiar with WestJet's new fare class, UltraBasic. These fares generally don't include a piece of carry-on luggage and you have to board last.

Porter Airlines
Porter is offering the "Biggest Sale of Summer" for travel until Dec. 15.
While the airline doesn't have that many routes that fly directly from Vancouver, locals can connect onward to numerous options in the Caribbean and Europe via its hub city Toronto.
Direct flights from Vancouver to Toronto start at around $320 for return trips including all taxes and fees (see slide three).
In April, Porter launched direct service connecting Vancouver and Montreal.
The airline is offering up to 30 per cent off flights with promotional code P78QYP. The discount is not applicable for travel on June 27 and 28, from Aug. 1 to 6, Aug. 29 to Sept. 3, and Oct. 10 to 15, 2024.
The sale has several specifics travellers should take note of based on travel dates and fare class:
- On Basic, Standard and Navigate fares between June 17 and 26: a 30 per cent discount is applicable on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays; a 20 per cent discount is applicable on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays.
- On Flexible, Freedom and Ultimate fares between June 17 and 26, 2024: a 15 per cent discount is applicable Mondays through Sundays.
- On Basic, Standard and Navigate fares from July 1 to 31, 2024: a 20 per cent discount is applicable on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays; a 15% discount is applicable on Mondays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. On Flexible, Freedom and Ultimate fares from July 1 to 31, 2024: 15% discount is applicable Mondays through Sundays.
- On Basic, Standard and Navigate fares from Aug. 1 and 31, 2024: a 10 per cent discount is applicable Mondays through Sundays.
- On Flexible, Freedom and Ultimate fares from Aug. 1 and 31, 2024: a 5 per cent discount is applicable Mondays through Sundays.
- On Basic, Standard and Navigate fares between Sept. 4 and Dec. 15, 2024: a 30 per cent discount is applicable on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays; a 20 per cent discount is applicable on Mondays, Fridays, and Sundays.
- On Flexible, Freedom and Ultimate fares between Sept. 4 and Dec. 15, 2024: a 15 per cent discount is applicable Mondays through Sundays.
Booking must be made with Porter by 8:59 p.m. on June 13.
