Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is welcoming a new international airline.
Fiji Airways, Fiji's national carrier, announced July 5 that it will fly directly from Nadi, home to the country's main international airport, starting Nov. 25.
The airline will fly directly to and from Vancouver twice a week on Mondays and Fridays.
Managing director and CEO of Fiji Airways Andre Viljoen said Canada shows potential in the tourism and trade industries while "re-connecting Fijian families" at the same time.
"The Fijian diaspora in Canada is approximately 80,000 – people who have not been able to see their loved ones for two years and are eager to fly home. Fiji Airways now provides them with a more convenient means to do just that," said Viljoen.
Viljoen said the new route also offers Canadians an escape from the cold winter to Fiji.
