Did you spot any lightning in Vancouver last night?
While you might not have watched the tempestuous display unfold, you most likely heard it.
Thunder bellowed across the Lower Mainland for over half-an-hour late Monday (May 17) night that was accompanied by electric flashes of light. At times the light was so intense that it made the inky night sky look as bright as mid-afternoon.
Metro Vancouverites took to social media to share videos and photos of the storm, with many of them commenting that they'd never seen one like it in the area.
For some, the storm was a welcome respite from a year that left so much to be desired. Don Falconer commented: "That was the most fun I’ve had since March 2020."
Have a look at some of the most thrilling moments from last night's thunderstorm.

Last night was wild. Had some of the closest lightning strikes I've felt in Vancouver. So I pulled out the camera! Missed the biggest but caught a couple. pic.twitter.com/OAajeL40q1

This was intense. Never seen rain and wind like this in a thunderstorm in Vancouver. Lots of sirens and emergency lights in East Van #bcstorm @ensembleator @50ShadesofVan @JWagstaffe pic.twitter.com/dqblSs17Re

Last night was a lot of fun! A good Thunderstorm in Vancouver is Lightning every 30 to 60 seconds. There were times where it was every 10 to 15 seconds last night! But the damage, the branches down, and the flooding! It also packed a punch! ๐โ pic.twitter.com/gGEwqUG46d
