Once in a while, a home listing comes along that’s out of the ordinary – and this one is truly epic.
Eppich House 2, the home that legendary Canadian architect Arthur Erickson called his “most complete work,” is listed for the first time, for $16,800,000. What’s more, Erickson also designed the incredible curvilinear furnishings throughout the home – all of which are included in the price.
The steel-frame-and-glass home in the British Properties neighbourhood of West Vancouver was commissioned by the Hugo and Brigitte Eppich and has remained in the family’s ownership ever since. Hugo Eppich was one of two brothers, and the other brother also commissioned an Erickson house, named Eppich House 1, also in West Vancouver.
Erickson was given carte blanche to design the Hugo Eppich house and all its furnishings, which was a first for the architect. Eppich is the owner of a steel fabrication company, and he built the never-been-done-before curved steel frame at his own plant. The Erickson-designed furniture was also made by another of Eppich’s fabrication companies. The unique home was completed in 1988.

Eppich said in a video interview, “Usually, steel houses are straight. Arthur wanted to have a curved house, and roll it into the landscape. We liked it, and that’s how we started… And because we had all these other companies in our group, we could design and make all the furniture ourselves. It’s not like buying furniture, where everybody has [the same thing]. What we had was just for our home.”

Aside from architectural details too numerous to list, the truly extraordinary house has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a large open-concept living and dining room, an outdoor pool, an indoor hot tub and amazing views of the ocean. On the 1.18-acre property is a pond and creek, and a separate guest house overlooking the pond.
Even though the pool is outside, it is under a structure that extends the lines of the overall house. Listing agent: Eric Latta
Listing agent Eric Latta told Glacier Media, “It’s a totally, totally unique property. In all my years of selling real estate, I’ve never seen anything like it.”
The house has been featured in many magazines, is a location for the upcoming Liam Neeson movie Hard Powder, and also has a book written about it.
