The VPD issued a release this morning making a plea for the public's help after an alarming increase in thefts from vehicles during the first 3 months of 2018.
Since the beginning of January 2018 there's been a 39.4% increase in theft from vehicles as opposed to the same frame of time in 2017.
The help they're asking for is for you to not leave stuff visible in your car. Sergeant Jason Robillard notes that "One of the easiest things to do is to avoid leaving anything visible in your car.”
So maybe do that.
Also in the release was the suggestion that the public spend time with their interactive tool called GeoDash, which shows all reported crime in Vancouver over a 7-28 day period. It's meant to "enhance community awareness of policing activity in Vancouver", and it might be a handy tool when you're considering what neighbourhood you want to move to.
Poke around the tool HERE and see how your neighbourhood stacks up.
