An employee at a Real Canadian Superstore in Surrey has tested positive for COVID-19.
Loblaw Companies Limited says an employee working at the Superstore located at 14650 104th Ave in Surrey tested positive on a presumptive test for COVID-19 on Oct. 7.
The last day the team member worked was on Oct. 2.
Loblaw regularly updates its COVID-19 page with all positive COVID-19 cases in its stores, by province, in the last 15 days. However, it will not release any personal information about employees.
"Given the important role we play in our communities, we are prepared for all possible situations, including a positive test for COVID-19 in our stores. In these cases, we work closely with public health and follow their guidance to ensure proper notification of close contacts and required cleaning and sanitization in our stores," writes Loblaw.
In August, Loblaw made face masks mandatory at all Real Canadian Superstore and No Frills locations across B.C.
COVID-19 is spread by respiratory droplets when a person who is sick coughs or sneezes. It can also be spread when a healthy person touches an object or surface (e.g. a doorknob or a table) with the virus on it and then touches their mouth, nose or eyes before washing their hands. Most people who get COVID-19 have only mild disease, but a few people can get very sick and may need to go to the hospital. The symptoms of COVID-19 may include fatigue, loss of appetite, fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, loss of smell and/or diarrhea.
