Vancouver Police said an investigation into a man who was arrested for assault on March 19 led to the identification of a person of interest in a recent stalking case.

Vancouver police say they have identified a person of interest in connection with the "suspicious circumstance" of a woman who was followed through the city's downtown core this week.

According to Const. Tania Visintin, the identification was made after police arrested a man for assaulting a female victim in downtown Vancouver on Friday morning, March 19.

“From this investigation, officers have identified a person of interest in the stalking case," Visintin explained.

On Wednesday, March 17, a woman bravely took to Instagram with both video footage and a written account of a suspicious man who she says followed her closely through downtown Vancouver over a period of 40 minutes. She reported the incident to police. Since, numerous women have spoken out about having had similar encounters with the same individual.

A 33-year-old Vancouver man was arrested and is being held in jail, police said, while assault charges have been recommended to Crown counsel.

Vancouver police officers' investigation into the stalking file remains ongoing.
