A Vancouver bike officer was assaulted while on patrol.

A Vancouver police officer is recovering from some minor facial injuries after asking a man to stop jaywalking earlier this month.

On Jan. 9 a Vancouver Police Department (VPD) officer was on a bike patrol when he tried to stop a man carrying a long metal saw from jaywalking across an intersection at Dunsmuir and Richards streets.

"When he asked the man to stop, the man responded by punching the officer in the face with a closed fist," write the VPD in a statement

While there was a scuffle, the man wasn't able to use the saw as a weapon and the officer was able to call for backup.

The police officer is now recovering from some bruising and swelling on his face, while the suspect is potentially facing multiple charges.
