Wind storm wreaks havoc across Metro Vancouver (Photos & Videos)

The storm caused everything from fallen trees to crashing waves to tossed debris

The sun may be shining in Metro Vancouver this afternoon, but earlier today the region saw powerful winds that resulted in multiple power outages across the region.

As of Nov. 17 at 12: 56 p.m., BC Hydro listed 70 power outages in the Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast. Many of the outages report that a tree has fallen down on the wires, while others simply say "windstorm." In total, 34,891 customers were affected by the outages at that time.

Earlier this morning, Environment Canada issued a wind warning for Metro Vancouver calling for gusts up to 90 km/hr in the region. The warning notes that the high winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. The windstorm has ended, but the forecast calls for a risk of thunderstorms this evening and periods of rain later tonight.
