You can become a waste warrior, thanks to a new free app.
Too Good To Go has launched in Vancouver. The app aims to empower consumers and businesses to fight food waste by offering surprise bags of food.
The app connects people to surplus food items from local restaurants and grocery stores, which would otherwise be thrown out.
The company has partnered with over 100 Vancouver businesses, including Nada, Terra Breads, and Be Fresh.
"When you press reserve, you show up at the pick-up window and you simply just show the receipt that's on your app and pick up your surprise bag. We have bags valued at certain amounts and then the consumer ultimately pays one-third of the price," explains Too Good To Go manager Sam Kashani.
According to the company, an estimated $1.3 billion worth of food is wasted each year in B.C. food stores and foodservice businesses. In Metro Vancouver alone, 13,000 tonnes of food is wasted annually.
Too Good To Go is the world's biggest business-to-consumer (B2C) marketplace for surplus food. In four years, the company has expanded its food waste program to 16 countries.
