Nishant Jain got tired of learning how machines work; he wanted to know how life works.
The Vancouver resident has a master's degree in engineering but has since turned to the world of art.
Jain calls himself the 'Sneaky Artist' and began sketching people and cityscapes when he lived in Chicago several years ago. The self-taught artist now calls Yaletown home and continues to capture city life with the stroke of his pen.
As India's pandemic plight recently began making headlines, Jain shifted attention to his home country.
The illustrator created the 'Faces for India' campaign. He sells high-resolution personalized portraits to collect COVID financial aid.
Proceeds go toward nonprofit organizations Khalsa Aid and GiveIndia. The project's become so popular Jain has now completed over 200 portraits.
Jain says it's been a way for him to elevate his art.
"It's so heartening to see how many people step up to help, as long as we make these channels of helping possible to them. So I see my role here not as an artist, I see my role here as a facilitator," he explains.
