Video: Police seek Tesla driver who may have witnessed Burnaby apartment arson

A security camera captured a light coloured Tesla stopping in front of a Jersey Avenue lowrise apartment building the moment fire broke out in the lobby.

Police are calling on the occupants of a Tesla to come forward and tell investigators what they saw on the night a Burnaby apartment building went up in flames.

Fire broke out at Cameray Gardens on the corner of Jersey Avenue and Sandell Street just before 12:30 a.m. Tuesday.

A security camera pointed at the lobby from across Jersey Avenue captured two people breaking into the building and igniting the blaze.

The video, made public in a Burnaby RCMP news release Thursday, shows a flash and the two people fleeing the scene.

As the pair are breaking into the lobby, the video shows a light coloured vehicle, believed to be a Tesla, slowing down and stopping directly in front of the building before driving away northbound on Jersey as soon as the flash erupts.

"We believe the driver, and any other occupants, of the vehicle that was travelling north on Jersey Avenue as the fire was ignited may have witnessed a very significant portion of the incident and had a good look at the suspects," Burnaby RCMP Cpl. Mike Kalanj said in the release. "If you were in this vehicle ... please come forward and speak to our investigators."

Police are also hoping to talk to anyone who might have dashcam video taken between midnight and 1 a.m. Tuesday in the area bordered by Burke Street, Patterson Avenue, Kingsway and Boundary Road.
