With only two days left in summer, Metro Vancouver is already getting a taste of fall with a forecast of rain and wind to take us into the weekend--when we're actually due for some sunshine.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Metro Vancouver about a pair of Pacific disturbances heading to the south coast of B.C. that will bring the downpours and wind gusts.
In addition to brisk southeast winds, rain is expected to develop midday and will increase in intensity into Thursday night. That rain is predicted to hang around through Friday.
Rainfall totals of 20 to 50 mm are expected from the first disturbance by Friday morning Another 30 to 50 mm of rainfall are expected from the second disturbance from Friday afternoon through Saturday morning, notes Environment Canada.
Regions set to see the most of the wet stuff are the North Shore, Howe Sound, and parts of eastern Vancouver Island. The windiest spots are likely to be near the Georgia Strait, and the region is being warned that our dry summer means drought-stressed trees might not handle the wind too well.
