If the Metro Vancouver weather forecast cooperates, locals can view three supermoons in 2025.

Sywatchers must wait until the weather cools after summer to bathe in the light of a seemingly super-sized moon.

Metro Vancouverites can mark their calendars for three "supermoons" in 2025. The moon won't actually grow in size for the lunar spectacles but will appear larger and brighter than usual, weather permitting.

A full moon is considered a supermoon because it appears roughly 15 per cent brighter and seven per cent bigger due to its proximity to Earth.

EarthSky notes that astronomers usually refer to supermoons as perigean full moons, a term that simply refers to the moon being "near earth."

The first of the three 'supermoons" will appear at its fullest in Vancouver on Oct. 6 at 8:47 p.m., according to timeanddate.com.

The October full moon will also be considered the Harvest Moon because it falls closest to the autumnal equinox on Sept. 22 (some years it occurs in September).

The second supermoon in Vancouver will appear at its fullest on Nov. 5 at 5:19 a.m., according to timeanddate.com.

The December full lunar event is aptly called the "full cold moon," Says The Old Farmer's Almanac. The Mohawk gave the moon this name to describe when the cold weather "truly begins to grip us."
