The bomb cyclone that struck Metro Vancouver on Tuesday, Nov. 19 has left thousands of people without power.
As of 9 a.m. on Wednesday, BC Hydro reports 36 outages affecting 4,584 customers in the Lower Mainland and the Sunshine Coast.
Most outages were caused by the powerful windstorm, with a few specifically mentioning a tree down across the company's wires.
Over 1,200 people have been in the dark since 8:23 p.m. on Tuesday due to an outage in the City of Vancouver in the area west of Dunbar Street, south of Cameron Avenue, north of 10th Avenue, and east of Normandy Way.
Similarly, 479 Delta residents have been without power since Tuesday at 8:05 p.m. due to an outage, while 157 North Vancouver customers in the Belcarra area have been in the dark since 7:29 p.m. last night.
Other power outages started early Wednesday morning, including one in Vancouver proper that started at 7:35 a.m. and is affecting 438 customers.
Environment Canada warned locals about the impact of the bomb cyclone for days ahead of the storm, advising them to have a 72-hour emergency kit ready.
Meteorologist Brian Proctor told V.I.A. in a previous interview that another frontal system is slated to move into the region on Wednesday into Thursday. However, it isn't expected to be as "potent."
The Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes 40 km/h winds gusting to 60 on Wednesday and heading into Thursday.
