Vancouver set a rainy record on Friday, Oct. 18, 2024.

Vancouver's going to earn its rainy reputation this week.

Following the Sunday storm, Vancouver's forecast will stay consistently damp and grey, according to Environment Canada meteorologist Louis Kohanyi.

The sunniest period for the next few days could be Monday morning, Feb. 24, when there's a mix of sun and cloud expected, he tells V.I.A. But that will be followed by rain on Monday afternoon as another frontal system moves through the region.

"The rain is not going to be as intense as the storm [Sunday] afternoon," Kohanyi adds.

That said, there's still going to be wind, with gusts of up to 70 km/h over the Strait of Georgia. In the city those gusts will be muted somewhat, though a stiff breeze of 20 km/h is still expected, with some stronger gusts.

"It could be windy on Monday night for Vancouver," says Kohanyi.

On Tuesday it'll remain cloudy, but the current forecast is only for a 30 per cent chance of rain. Kohanyi notes the weather on Tuesday will be unsettled after Monday's system passes through.

Wednesday, Feb. 26, is expected to be showery in the morning with periods of rain in the afternoon.

"There is a break on Thursday," Kohanyi says. "We're looking at a 40 per cent chance of showers."

While Thursday night might only be cloudy, showers are expected to return Friday, Feb. 28. Things are expected to stay wet into the weekend.

"At the beginning of March we're looking at rain on Saturday," Kohanyi says.

While it'll be consistently grey and damp, it'll be warmer than usual, he adds.

"Usually for the end of February in Metro Vancouver we're expecting temperatures between 2 C and 9 C," he explains.

Highs for the week are sitting around 10 C, with Thursday, Feb. 27, potentially hitting 13 C. Overnight lows are only dropping to 5 or 6 C.
