The Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes wet weather but temperatures may be slightly above average thanks to Super Typhoon Bolaven in October 2023.

The Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes a decidedly stormy shift -- but there may be a great deal more rainfall than was previously expected.

Locals enjoyed a few sunny days in the Lower Mainland last week, with daily highs reaching a few degrees above seasonal averages.

But a shift to wet weather began overnight on Friday, Oct. 13, with modest amounts of precipitation across the region.

Environment Canada meteorologist Yimei Yi told V.I.A. in a previous interview that several low-pressure systems off the B.C. coast caused the shift to a cooler, wetter pattern heading into the weekend

Metro Vancouver weather may also be impacted by the effects of Super Typhoon Bolaven later in the week, although the storm will weaken significantly by the time it reaches the B.C. coast.

The storm's "westward track has turned north and eastwards, a path known as a recurving typhoon." The energy from this jet stream will bring the storm to the shores of B.C., resulting in "above seasonal weather for the middle of October," according to The Weather Network.

The Downtown Vancouver Weatherhood station shows that showers are expected to start falling on Sunday evening around 6 p.m. and continue on and off until around midnight. There is also the possibility of thunderstorms from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the downtown area.

Temperatures are trending above average, with a high of 20 C on Sunday and 17 C on Monday. However, Tuesday's forecast includes a shift to cooler weather, with a high of 14 C expected. However, this is still slightly above the seasonal average (13 C).

Monday is expected to be dry throughout the day, but light rain is expected to begin falling around 6 p.m.

Other places in the Lower Mainland, such as New Westminster and Burnaby West, will likely also see a shift to showers starting around 6 p.m. on Sunday, according to their Weatherhood stations.

The seven-day forecast includes the possibility of wet weather every day, and several days have over a 95 per cent chance of rainfall. There is also the possibility of thunderstorms on Thursday.

Wednesday may see some significant rainfall, with up to 50 mm of precipitation possible.
