Metro Vancouverites may see a shift to some hot weather in July but they'll have to be patient.
Environment Canada isn't expecting temperatures to deviate far from seasonal averages over the next couple of months in the Lower Mainland. While this doesn't mean some anomalous heat or cold weather isn't possible, conditions could follow historical trends.
Meteorologist Chris Doyle said the department isn't showing the same hot weather prediction for summer from earlier this year. Instead, the models indicate a start to summer that could trend just slightly above or even a bit below the seasonal average.
Traditionally, Vancouver starts to see its hottest temperatures and driest conditions by the second week of July.
"The best forecast for July is average," he told V.I.A. "By the second week of July, our precipitation drops significantly."
While the first half of July isn't clear, the start of the month often sees more precipitation than the remainder of summer and is more likely to see slightly cooler temperatures.
Locals should start to see temperatures climb after the first half of July and remain warm through August. However, it is unclear if August's temperatures will trend below or above the seasonal average.
The Metro Vancouver weather forecast may be affected by heat waves and storms that aren't observed until closer to their arrival.
