The Stanley Park seawall remains closed following a powerful storm over the weekend.
Locals headed to Vancouver's largest park on Monday, Oct. 21 are advised to avoid the area between Third Beach and Prospect Point due to storm conditions (see slide two).
Although the strong winds and heavy rain have eased, some areas on the seawall may be dangerous due to extensive flooding and loose debris.
The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation stated on X, formerly Twitter, that crews will assess conditions on Tuesday "to determine reopening plans." For now, it asks locals to respect the detours for safety.
The park board initiated the closures on Oct. 18 at 5 p.m. in "anticipation of high winds and heavy rain."
Atmospheric river causes chaos across the Lower Mainland
Rainfall records were broken over the weekend following the impact of an atmospheric river that drenched the south B.C. coast and caused extensive power outages and road closures.
The Vancouver Police Department Mounted Unit shared a video from Stanely Park on Saturday that showed flooding in places like Lost Lagoon, with water overflowing on trails.
The Vancouver weather forecast includes showers on Monday but no torrential rain is expected following the major storm.
Locals can check an online map of the closures for more information.
