This weekend will be sunny in Vancouver, but cold overnight temps have prompted the City to open additional shelter spaces.

Temperatures appear to be on the rise for Vancouver, and could nearly reach 10 C for the final weekend of January.

Weatherhood's forecast for Friday, Jan. 24 is calling for sunny skies for all neighbourhoods — even with humidity ranging from 50 to 80 per cent in the morning.

The warmest areas will be away from the coast in South and East Vancouver with temps bumping up to a high of 7 C by Sunday

This includes Kerrisdale, Southlands and the River District to Strathcona and Hastings Sunrise.

But residents will still want to wear layers when heading outside, especially along the water.

Weatherhood's data shows slight winds just under 10 km/h for Stanley Park, Downtown Centre, False Creek, Kitsilano and Granville Island.

Saturday calls for a high of around 5 C and a low of 2 C.

As a result, the city has announced it'll extend and expand on its extreme weather response by opening additional shelter spaces through until Monday.
