Liz McDonald

Liz comes from Thamesford in southwestern Ontario, where she grew up surrounded by cornfields and creeks, fostering an early love for the outdoors (there was little else to explore in her one-stop-light town).

Her passion for reading, photography, performance and people led her to stumble into journalism as a career, which may have also been influenced by her parents' nightly watching of local TV news and morning radio listening.

Liz had a brief stint in theatre before she studied broadcast journalism at Fanshawe College in London, Ont., and then got a double major in history and political science at Western University.

Then, by a twist of fate, her passion for a sport called slacklining led her to a master's degree in journalism at the University of British Columbia.

After finishing (for now) her long career in academia, Liz went on to report with Sun Peaks Independent News. Her love for skiing, slacklining and reporting brought her back to the Sea to Sky and to the team at Pique Newsmagazine.

When she’s not working, she spends her days reading, exploring the outdoors and connecting with her community.
