Once classified as heritage, the Opsal Steel buildings on the corner of 2nd and Quebec got de-listed in 1997 and by the looks of it are just sitting there awaiting demolition.
But looks can be deceiving, as I did some digging and found out that even though their heritage status has been revoked and they could be torn down if the owner wanted them to be, somebody’s restoring them! The site isn’t going to be a steel mill like it was at the turn of the century but it’s pretty much as close as it can be without being torn down and forever forgotten.
