ALMOST WEEKLY SLOP – AU PETIT CAFE

POSTED August 12, 2009 BY VANCOUVERSLOP

aupetitThis place has some of the best Vietnamese Sandwiches/Subs in the city, the bread is fresh and tastes soo good.  Try the chicken, if you have a chance ($3.50).

On this day I ordered a chicken sandwich and a bowl of chicken with noodles soup. The sandwiches are not loaded with ingredients but they taste fantastic mainly due to the freshness of the bread. The bowl of soup was tasty containing a quarter chicken in the soup but the broth or the flavour of the chicken didn’t blow my mind. The reviews on Dinehere.ca are quite variable and the reason is you have to have a sandwich, the other dishes are average but the sandwiches are what people are raving about.

Note -Be careful when going in the winter because I remember that place not having heat. Also, when going late in the day be careful because they run out of bread usually right after lunch so sandwiches are not available.

    I love their subs!

But for $6 MSG-free pho ga (that’s pho with chicken), I’d head to Kingsway’s My Chau Restaurant–my favourite hole in the wall.

I’ll have to agree their pho isn’t that flavourful. However, Au Petit is hands down the best vietnamese sandwich place in Vancouver.

ugh, talk about blowing up a spot, Petit is so busy as it is, get there before 11 am if you want bun thit.

  • Putty

Au Petite is definitely over rated and certainly not worth the wait. Their subs are mediocre and the noodles are bland and boring. Try Hai Phong or My Chau for real Pho.

Any suggestions of the best place to get a vegetarian Vietnamese sub in Van? Any place can offer a sub without the meat… I’m thinking about a tofu or seitan substitution.

Sandwiches yeh… Pho meh. Although I do enjoy their plain wonton soup once in a while – it’s quite different from the wonton soup at most other joints… Can’t quite put my finger on the flavor…
