PEAK PERFORMANCE PROJECT - THE LEFT

The PEAK Performance Project is a seven-year, 5.29 million dollar contest open to all musicians in British Columbia. The project was created by Vancouver's very own 100.5 The PEAK and Music BC to develop BC based emerging artists.

Every year, twenty finalists from BC will receive an intensive, one week training program in the music business, live performance, songwriting, marketing and promotion. From these, the top three will be crowned as the PEAK Performers of the year and will share $275,000 in cash for career development!

Who's your favorite artist(s) in the Peak Performance Project and why?

All 19 Peak Bands are great! It was so much fun going to Boot Camp with all of them. I think it would be impossible to pick a favorite but if you took We Are The City’s collective personality and placed it in Dom’s body from the Painted Birds with Tea’s eyes and Sweetheart’s heart (because it’s so sweet) that would be our favorite artist.

What was the most valuable thing you took away from Boot Camp?

There were so many valuable things we learnt at Boot Camp. They managed to squeeze four years of music business school into one week and it was all taught to us by industry Pro’s. However, the most valuable thing we took away from Boot Camp wasn’t something we learned, it was the relationships we were able to create; On the last night we were all together we were given the chance to all write notes to each artist. So when we left Boot Camp we left knowing what we meant to each other.

What is one thing you wish you brought to Boot Camp, but didn’t?

Honestly, it is hard to think of something that we wished we brought to Boot Camp. I mean, this camp had an espresso bar, an ice cream bar, zip line, disc golf course, golf course and soccer fields all surrounded by a beautiful lake. But if we had to choose one thing that we wished we brought, we would all probably say OUR FANS!!! … cause it was so hot up there.

What’s your favorite venue to play at in BC?

We have played a lot of venues all across B.C. over the last seven years but none compare to the Commodore Ballroom. We have had the pleasure of playing there a couple of times. Earlier this year, during Juno Weekend, we were lucky enough to open up for 54-40. The Commodore was well over capacity that night and Sam Roberts, George Canyon, Great Big Sea, and Blue Rodeo all came up and played that night. It was great being around such amazing artists and being able to play with them.

Where is your favorite hangout in Vancouver?

We have a lot of favorite places in Vancouver but recently we have been at the studio day and night and the highlight everyday is when our meals from the Argo Cafe arrive. The Argo Café ?is a quaint little restaurant near Ontario Street and 2nd Ave., with great, appetite filling meals. We always order off the specials boards for a great deal and a big meal. Garth Richardson will have to share the Producer credits with the chef at the Argo for this record we’re recording now.

If you win the grand prize, what are you going to put the money towards?

We just finished our dream album with our mentor, Garth Richardson. We have been under Garth’s wing for six years writing and being developed as a band. If we get the unbelievable privilege of being awarded any money through this competition, we will use most of it promoting and touring this album because we want everyone to hear it. The remaining money will of course be spent on thanking everyone who voted for us!
