November's Blim Market heartily welcomes the return of Georgie Russell and her Hand and Shadow line of handcrafted textiles.
A graduate of Emily Carr Institute, Georgie utilizes both found images and her own original drawings in the creation of her pieces (particularly beautiful is her careful and delicate hand drawn rendition of an ownerless hairdo). Unisex T-shirts, scarves and other accessories are made in small, hand produced batches from Georgie's East Vancouver studio. This controlled production allows for slight variations that bring uniqueness to each piece.
As befits her artistic background, Georgie gives particular care and attention to the nature and quality of the materials she uses. Hand & Shadow T-shirts are made from organic cotton, and many of her pieces are screened using pigment and discharge paste as an alternative to less environmentally friendly traditional screen print inks.
