IT’S CHARLES DEMERS!

I’m pretty sure Christine Mcavoy is working on a more extensive post about Talent Time‘s ANTI-S.A.D. beach party/show that we co-sponsored last night as she brought a much more expensive camera than I did and shot from the front row, but in the meantime I wanted to share this photo that I shot of Charles Demers who was a guest on the show. This comedian/author/TV guy penned the book Vancouver Special (published by Arsenal Pulp Press) which I’m currently reading and will tell you all about in a week or so after I make my way through it.

I’d never seen him live so it was an amazing treat to sit through Charles’ set last night (is that what standup performances are called? “Sets”?), which was ridiculously funny.

The “T” is for Talent.

I received Vancouver Special as a Christmas gift from my sister and have not been able to put it down. It’s hilariously funny and so accurate about Vancouver’s quirks that it almost hurts. I particularly love his essay on Little India. It made the BC Coastal Health’s restaurant closures a little more funny when I saw Main Kabob Hut on the list. (A reference you’ll get soon enough).

He was hilarious. I completely lost it when he was dealing with the lady that had to be ejected.

    I am indeed.

My favourite part of his set was when he was talking about vegan bacon and Alica yelled “its called Facon!” and he razzed her. I can’t remember what he said specifically.

I’m afraid to see the videos from the night.

I think that’s when he clarified that he wasn’t interested in her because he was married. “I bet lots of guys tell you you’re funny.”
