PLACE: Whytecliff Park (Click for Map) LOCATION: West Vancouver Everybody needs a break from the daily grind. A way to forget the commute, the meetings, the email and GTD. When the time comes to turn off the computer, tune out work and unplug from the grid there is no place better to do so than Vancouver. To make this point I decided to pick a location that is literally moments away from the city for our inaugural Unplugged feature, Whytecliff Park. |

Whytecliff, which sits just opposite the Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver, is a Marine Protected Area and as such is home to a variety of wildlife. It is not unusual to see sea lions sunbathing on the rocks of Whyte Islet. Since the area is protected it is quite a popular spot for scuba divers.

Being a family man I can greatly appreciate the variety of options Whytecliff offers. There is a playground for the children, plenty of open grassy space for picnicking, frisbee or tossing a ball and the air is always filled with the smell of the grill.

When the tide is low a land bridge appears between the beach and Whyte Islet allowing one to walk across and explore the gorgeous hangout of birds, sea lions and starfish. From this vantage point one can see out across the mouth of Howe Sound and back into at the beautiful homes lining Bachelor Bay.

On the opposite side of the beach from Whyte Islet one will find steps carved into the rock face leading up the cliff side to some of the most beautiful chilling places in the lower mainland.
