MLA Mable Elmore recognizes Sammie Jo Rumbaua (for all of the things she does)

Sammie Jo Rumbaua is one of those tireless people that is always behind something. Whether it’s about bringing people together for getting grimy in da club or organizing efforts to build libraries in communities of need in the Phillippines. Then there’s helping out with bboy/bgirl battles, film festivals, comedy shows and helping connect tons and tons of artists around town (and getting in on some of her own dancing herself). There is no doubt people like this run on doing it for the love but it’s still nice to get some recognition once in a while too. Vancouver-Kensington MLA Mable Elmore recognized Sammie Jo for all of the above with the Kensington Community Leadership Award for 2010. “Sammie Jo is a great example of a leader who can influence our community with a positive vision,” said Elmore. “The recipients of this prestigious award are recognized for their outstanding leadership, dedication and service to their community”.

From Lorie Corcuera, Co-Founder and Director of Enspire Foundation:
“This November 2010, Sammie Jo will once again take on a selfless undertaking by leading a group of 15 young-adult Canadians comprised of students and professionals to help build two more homes in Norzagaray, Bulacan, Philippines. This humanitarian trip is part of Enspire Foundation’s Shared Experience Program (SEP) and community project aimed to help in the relocation of slum-dwellers from the impoverished area of Bagong Silang in Navotas City to this new community.”

Sammie Jo is also behind this coming Sunday’s SALAMAT LIVE Filipino Independence Day showcase
