How had I never been to Brohm Lake before last weekend? This little slice of heaven is located 5 minutes north of Squamish right off the Sea To Sky, just past Alice Lake and Cat Lake, and I would bet that at least a few of your friends have enjoyed basking on the rocks after taking a dip here during the summer months.
In these days of Fall it's a little less swimmable but a lot more fishable, we discovered it had been stocked with 1,250 rainbow trout a couple months ago so we decided to take a trip and see what we could pull out of it. And by "we" I mean myself and a couple of musician friends, Rob Butterfield and Mitch Charron. The further you head down the lake the less you can hear the traffic of the highway (in fact if you walk right around the corner it feels like you're in the middle of nowhere), so we hightailed it down what could loosely be described as a "trail".
You might remember Rob from our Zipcar adventure when he got BIT BY A CRAYFISH? He caught a few this day. They were all pretty small so we threw them all back for next year's dinner. Don't be fooled by our camera tricks, this little guy is about 6 inches long.
And if you remember Rob's luck from the crayfish incident you won't be surprised that he fell in the lake! We were all perched on the edge of this somewhat sketchy moss-filled rock on the edge of the lake and as Rob inched closer to the water the moss let go of the rock and basically he and a giant patch of it slid into the depths. You can see his phone in his hand in this photo below, and unfortunately for him he also had his iPod in his pocket at the time.
I was going to put a call out and see if anybody has an old iPod laying around that they could donate to our next fishing adventure (we often plug it into a little speaker setup) but just as I was writing this this morning an unexpected and much appreciated package arrived in the mail... more on that next week.
