Well, I guess I'm the 'new guy' around here - but hey, this is a pretty awesome place to be the 'new guy', and I'm really excited to be entrusted with picking the Daily Flickr photo. Thanks for the opportunity Bob, and thanks to Dano for leaving the office so nice and tidy. I certainly have large shoes to fill.

My name is Gary, and I'm a (much-more-than-just-a) photographer who grew up in in the Fraser Valley before moving to Vancouver a decade ago. I have an insatiable appetite for Vancouver and its history, trivia, quirks and varied assorted awesomeness. I hope to share some with you and learn more from you about our city with my time here with you. Drop me a line if you have any juicy stuff, or if you have any feedback about my photo picks.

So without further ado, here is a nice and dreamy B&W image from just_jeanette titled pacific central station, vancouver. Did you know that until the early 20th century False Creek went as far east as the bluff at Clark Drive? There used to be a bridge over Main Street (then called 'Westminster Avenue') from National to East 2nd. When the Grandview Cut was dug, the extracted earth was used to create the False Creek Flats and more-or-less the shoreline that we know today. And rumour has it, that during a high tide, a phenomenon described as *minor flooding* still occurs in the basement of the Pacific Central Station.

Oh, and have you hugged your Holga lately?

Gary
