Just a couple weeks after our launch, there are already 230 members on VANCVR.com—a new, simple, online directory of Vancouver creatives. Wowzers! We didn't expect to grow this fast, but it sure is exciting!
This week, meet super talented illustrator, Tom Froese. Tom's online portfolio made us smile and sigh and we love that his wife—designer Amanda Martens—is also a member of the community!

What do you do?
For work? I'm a designer and illustrator.
Why do you love being a creative in Vancouver?
I think I'd love being a creative anywhere, but Vancouver is a good-sized city with a vibrant creative community. I find that it's big enough to move around in and discover new things yet small enough that you start to recognize faces wherever you go. I also like Vancouver because it's quirky and sometimes feels very 1950s.
How would you love to collaborate with other local creatives?
It seems like there's a lot going on already in this town. I feel well-connected to some of the most talented and creative people I know, right here in Vancouver. Typically, my wife Amanda and I will take on small projects with our friends, whether it's a grad project for a friend at Emily Carr, a web site for a giant family obsessed with art bikes, or even a cowboy-themed birthday party for a one-year-old.
