Designer/Developer Doug Avery comes to our fine city from the east coast, and then a bit south of there—Arlington, VA. He settled in Vancouver nearly a year ago and has been busy making the city his creative hub, while still working for Virginia-based web agency, Viget. When he isn't imagining ridiculous things you can do with CSS box shadows, he is possibly padding around town in his Vibram Fivefingers or birdwatching with his wife Mele at Stanley Park.

Scroll down to see his work and find out why he loves being a creative in Vancouver.

What do you do?

I'm a front-end developer for Viget, which is sort of like being a regular developer but working more with designers and browsers than with clients and servers.

Why do you love being a creative in Vancouver?

I think I'd like being _anything_ in Vancouver — the city just has a great, positive feeling to it, and I'm really lucky that I get to live here. The creatives I've met since moving seem like genuinely cool people, not snobby artists or code robots.

How would you love to collaborate with other local creatives?

I'm always up for discussing or hacking on anything front-end related, with designers or devs. So far I've been poking around in Meetups, but haven't looked much further. I definitely want to get more involved in mobile (which Vancouver has a great scene for) and Rails.
