Cool! The Canadian Olympic Committee has partnered with Offsetters to offset the emissions associated with the Canadian Olympic team’s travel to London 2012! This will include all athletes and their equipment, coaches, and all of the COC staff heading over to London for the 2012 Summer Games.

You're familiar with the company, Offsetters, right? They were the ones who offset our very own Vancouver 2010 Olympics to be carbon neutral, and they're a Vancouver company that we can all be incredibly proud of. They'll be offsetting the travel emissions with "a mix of high-quality projects that promote the shift to a low-carbon future for our world". That's pretty awesome.

Here's a visual they provided us with that shows you just how much needs to be offset...

And a quote from Ian Bruce, the Team Lead for Climate Change and Energy at the David Suzuki Foundation...

“The David Suzuki Foundation applauds the Canadian Olympic Committee’s commitment to send a carbon neutral team to London this summer. Many of our athletes are first-hand witnesses to the effects of climate change on their sports and therefore represent much needed champions for the collective action needed to make our communities green and healthy."
