If you were to create a Venn diagram where one circle was labeled "cheap" and the other labeled "awesome", the middle point where they cross over could be labeled "Vancouver on the Cheap". In other words, this is a weekly series on things to do and places to go in Vancouver that fall into that magical category of being both cheap and awesome.

Halloween is looming, folks, and we all know that it can be hard to throw together an awesome costume on the cheap. Well, take heart, costume lovers! There are not one, but TWO theatre companies holding costume sales this week for your benefit. The first is Carousel Theatre's costume sale on Sunday. They may be a theatre for young people, but their costumes are grown-up sized (their actors are all teens and adults). Costumes there will range from $5-40, so you could get an amazingly screaming deal or a decent price, but I can guarantee the costumes will all be fabulous. Then on Wednesday is the real steal of a deal: Theatre at UBC's costume sale. Everything there will be $1-10 with fur coats for only $5! Both boast period pieces as well as contemporary and whimsical dress.
