Your favourite restaurant closed down

As I was digging through our archives for Golden Plates recommendations the other day I came across THIS POST that I made exactly 3 years ago today, when The Cannery Restaurant shut its doors for good.
As I was digging through our archives for Golden Plates recommendations the other day I came across THIS POST that I made exactly 3 years ago today, when The Cannery Restaurant shut its doors for good. At the time I had found a vast collection of their recipes and decided to share them on the blog as a way to keep their legacy alive, allowing folks who loved the place as much as I did to prepare some of their dishes at home. It's been one of our most popular features ever, and it continues to get traffic to this day. Last night I put a call out on Twitter asking people what their favourite defunct local restaurants were and I was quickly overwhelmed by a tidal wave of passionate Vancouverites sharing memories of places that have enriched their lives (via their bellies) over the years. The frontrunner was Il Giardino with a boatload of people telling me it was their favourite, followed by DV8, The Cannery, Boneta... and about 50 others. So here's what's up: We're going to embark on a series of blog posts where we unearth recipes from your favourite Vancouver restaurants that aren't around anymore. Remember the garlic mayo at DV8? The tiramisu at Il Giardino? It's my hope that we'll be able to share recipes like these with you, serving up a sort of silver lining to the closing of the spots that will live forever in your memories, and perhaps your own kitchens. Stay tuned as we'll be dropping the first batch in the next couple of weeks. Some of the tweets received:
