Some of the world's finest improvisers are coming to the 16th Annual Vancouver International Improv Festival (VIIF), October 6-10 on Granville Island. With over 40 shows featuring over 150 performers, VIIF offers something for all comedy lovers.

“The improv festival is not only one of the funniest weeks in Vancouver, it is also one of the most exciting,” said Festival Director Alistair Cook. “Performers from Vancouver, across Canada and around the world will take your suggestions and create scenes, musicals, monologues and other improv magic. Every performance at VIIF is a one of a kind comedic performance.”

“The festival has been expanding year after year both in audience size and interest from performers to get involved,” explained Cook. “There is a long history of great work from Vancouver TheatreSports League and the ongoing infusion of styles brought in from around the world by our festival. Our staff and volunteers make an effort to make every guest feel like a superstar, so everyone has the best experience.”

This year VIIF is expanding to three venues, with shows taking place at Performance Works, Waterfront Theatre and The Improv Centre. Other highlights of VIIF 2015 include two International Ensembles, a new Local Ensemble featuring top talent from all over the Lower Mainland, and public and performer workshops for all skill levels.

Denise Jones, artistic director of Vancouver TheatreSports League (VTSL) and a member of the International Ensemble, is excited to work with improvisers from around the world. VTSL is a presenting partner of the festival, and will also be performing a set on Saturday, October 11 at Performance Works.

“I'm so excited to be part of VIIF 2015,” said Jones. “The vibe of community that this festival creates is like nothing I’ve experienced. There is so much improv fun when you hang with like-minded crazy people. The feeling of creating something that can only exist in that moment and will never be duplicated is magical."
