Our friends Michelle Pezel and Rick McCrank opened up Antisocial skateboard shop on Main Street right off Broadway back in 2002, long before the area became cool. In fact the area was a bit of a hole and it's probably true that their moving in had a lot to do with it becoming what it is today. According to a study the lesbian community leads the way when it comes to signalling neighbourhoods TBG (to-be-gentrified), but I think the skateboard community could also be looked to for similar signals.

London-based Huck Magazine recently tagged along with Michelle for a day and produced the video below, offering a look inside her world and the inspiration behind this community hub for skateboarders in our city. There's not a ton of money in running a small skate shop in a rent-heavy city but they've managed to weather the gentrification that came to Mount Pleasant and can serve as a true inspiration for business owners everywhere.
