Codex Pacificus is a new, ongoing series by local artist, Laara Cerman.

Each diptych documents the lifecycle of a wild plant in BC. The images are accompanied by ethnobotanical information researched by the artist, serving as a modern interpretation of the millennia-old art of botanical image making.

For Laara, Codex Pacificus is an attempt to reconcile her disconnect from the natural world and to pay tribute to the First Peoples of the Pacific Northwest and their knowledge of harvesting, preparing, and using indigenous plants.

View the full series below and be sure to visit Laara’s website for more details. Her next exhibition begins March 24th at Place Des Arts in Coquitlam.
