One of spring's most stunning sights in B.C. is poised to be in bloom. The Abbotsford Tulip Festival announced Tuesday they would be in "soft bloom" mode starting April 9.
The Warmerdam family has been growing tulips and other colourful blooms in Abbotsford since the mid-1970s, however the official festival is in its third year this year. Created in 2016 by Alexis Warmerdam, thousands of visitors now make it an annual pilgrimage to wade in the same tulip fields first planted over 30 years ago by her grandfather, Peter.
Featuring 10 acres of stunning blooms in hues of pink, yellow, red, purple, and orange, this springtime event is a must for floral fans and, of course, Instagrammers alike.
Tickets for the Abbotsford Tulip Festival range from $2 to $30, depending on the day of the week and the peak of the overall bloom. Purchase in advance online, and check back with the festival to find out more about their dates for 2018 and the status of the bloom. Last year, the fields were open until May 7.
The Abbotsford Tulip Festival is located at 36737 North Parallel Road in Abbotsford, and runs 9 am to 7:30 pm daily, weather dependent.
