Croissant + Cookie = Crookie

Looking for crookies in or near Vancouver? The croissant-cookie hybrid has been making waves on social media, particularly TikTok, since 2023, and several local bakeries are selling their version of the mash-up treat, including Bisou Bakehouse

What do you get when you add chocolate chip cookie dough to a croissant?

This isn't the set-up to a dad joke. The answer is: a "crookie."

Crookies are the latest mash-up food trend making the rounds on social media, and bakeries in Vancouver are hopping on board.

"The crookie was invented by Parisian pastry chef Stephane Louvard in 2022," according to France 24.

But it wasn't until a popular TikTok influencer tasted the hybrid treat in a video about a year later that the bakery owner soon had scores of people - armed with cellphones - showing up to try his crookies.

Fast forward to 2024, and the trend has gone global, with pastry chefs all over the world trying their hand at adding cookie dough to the exterior and interior of a plain croissant.

In Metro Vancouver, Archr Coffee + Bakery in Langley was the first to get attention for their crookie.

A few more local bakeries have joined in the craze.

You can now find crookies in Vancouver at Faubourg and Bisou Bakehouse; both have multiple shops around the city.

Bisou began in North Vancouver, but has since opened locations in Vancouver. The franchise most recently debuted its newest outpost in the Telus Garden building on West Georgia Street in Downtown Vancouver, welcoming its first customers just ahead of Christmas last year.

Beaucoup Bakery, with two Vancouver cafe locations, is offering a seasonal crookie through the end of April, made with a classic butter croissant filled with Valrhona chocolate chip cookie dough and topped with cookie dough and milk chocolate Easter eggs.

At its two locations in Burnaby and White Rock, Chez Christophe is doubling down on the trends by making a Crookie Croissant Cube

One Vancouver food influencer even has a video showing sweet-seekers how to turn a Costco croissant into a crookie at home.

For those who believe in the separation of croissant and cookie, there is no shortage of fantastic croissant options in Vancouver, as well as chocolate chip cookies, including one that is currently also enjoying a bit of social media frenzy. The latter can be found, served warm, at Fresh St. Market.
