With thousands of people jogging around the city this weekend as part of the massive Vancouver Sun Run, it's going to affect traffic and public transit.
On Sunday, April 16 the closure of the Burrard Bridge for a couple of hours, ramped up transit service (compared to usual Sundays), and 18 bands playing along the route are among a few of the things people near the race will probably notice.
Transit
The good news is that with the race bringing in thousands of runners and walkers, there's going to be extra transit.
"We’re adding extra transit service on Sunday, April 16! Don’t forget, you only need a 1-Zone fare to travel across all zones on Sundays and kids 12 and under ride free every day," says TransLink in a press release.
For SkyTrain riders, the Canada Line will start at 5 a.m. and have increased capacity from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The other lines will open at 6:30 a.m. with increased capacity.
The SeaBus will also be starting earlier than usual, with its first trip from North Vancouver to regular Vancouver at 7:02 a.m. The reverse trip will first depart Vancouver at 7:16 a.m.
The WestCoast Express will also have a special train due to the run, with a trip leaving from Mission City Station at 7 a.m. and a return journey at 1 p.m.
Along with the increased trips, there will be some detours due to the runs route.
The affected routes are: 2, 5, 6, 15, 50, 84, 240, 246, 257, N19, and N24. For details, visit the TransLink site.
