Firouz Nematyfar won the top prize on a Set for Life scratch ticket.

A Vancouver man is thankful after winning the top prize on a scratch-and-win lotto ticket.

Firouz Nematyfar bought a Set for Life ticket at the Shell gas station at East 41st Avenue and Knight Street and scratched it shortly after.

“I scratched three cash symbols and could not believe it," he said in a B.C. Lottery Corporation press release. "I went to check the ticket and went to the staff member who told me I won!"

His wife took a bit more convincing.

“I called my wife at work,” says Nematyfar. “She said, ‘You are crazy!’ She does not believe it until she sees the cheque.”

Set for Life tickets have a top prize that can be paid out in two ways: either $1,000 per week for 25 years or $675,000 all at once. Nematyfar chose the latter.

The money will go towards renovations and travel and will help him and his wife prepare for retirement.

“I am happy and thankful. This will be a relief for retirement.”
