The City of Vancouver is introducing a Park Until feature on the PayByPhone parking app to help reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road.
Park Until allows app users leave their car overnight and pay in advance for parking the next morning instead of needing to return to the meter the next morning to move their vehicles or add time when paid parking comes into effect.
“The new Park Until feature being added by PayByPhone is an excellent new tool to ensure that people are able to enjoy the night life Vancouver has to offer while ensuring they can get home safely,” says Jerry Dobrovolny, general manager of engineering services. “It’s also a great compliment to TransLink’s recently announced NightBus Hub initiative, and we’re happy to see more options for residents to travel safely around the city.”
Drivers can pay to 'Park Until' noon the next day -- the maximum three hour metre time limit.
“Park Until is a simple, effective solution to streamlining parking, and helps drivers pay for the amount of time they need,” says Barrie Arnold, CCO, PayByPhone North America in a press release.
The Park Until feature follows the launch of TransLink's NightBus District pilot project, which centres service around a well-lit hub at the corner of Granville and West Georgia Streets.
The Vancouver Police cautions the public not to leave any belongings in parked cars and there was 429 theft-from-auto incidents in April in downtown Vancouver.

PayByPhone is available for free through the Apple or Google stores for Android or iPhone.
