Amazon is hosting a Vancouver Small Business Pop-up Market at Jack Poole Plaza.

What do you call a big box store that has achieved total global domination? A mega box store?

Either way, Amazon has decided to use its super big mega box status to raise up local Vancouver businesses both by giving them Amazon storefronts and putting on an in-person "Vancouver Small Business Pop-up Market" at Jack Poole Plaza on Saturday, June 18.

The square around the Olympic cauldron will be transformed into a showcase of our local entrepreneurs and their various talents.

Visitors can expect some well-known names such as 49th Parallel coffee roastersStonz boots, and the essential oil diffuser brand Vitruvi alongside lesser-known businesses like So'Ham Yoga LifestyleOrganic Skin Therapies, and Zazubean Organic Chocolate. The 50 vendors are from all over the Lower Mainland and cover every facet of artisanship from food, beauty, and clothing to art and homewares.

The market is part of a larger initiative of Amazon's to promote shopping locally (but still through their platform). They have "local" business pages for Ontario, Quebec, the Prairies, and Atlantic Canada as well as B.C.

It is worth noting however that the Amazon storefronts only stock a limited selection of each company's products. For instance, Organic Skin Therapies has six categories of products but only three products total are listed on their Amazon storefront.
