So happy to have Shawn Hlookoff who might be better known by his stage name Shawn Hook as today's featured #ArtistAtHome !
To put it mildly, Shawn's music has really been taking off lately. He recently played what he said was the likely the best show of his life, as a featured performer on this years JUNO awards in which he was also a nominee for 'Fan Choice'. First, he sang his own hit song 'Sound of Your Heart,' then he joined the host Jann Arden in closing out the night with a tribute to Canadian music legend Burton Cummings. Shawn has had three simultaneous hits on the Canadian Hot 100, and ''Sound of Your Heart' recently entered the American Top 20 on pop radio.
Shawn has been promoting his newest album 'Analog Love' across North America and Europe and has made recent appearances on Jimmy Kimmel, The Today Show, and Live with Kelly and Michael. Interestingly, he does some acting as well, and has guest starred on the TV show 'Bones'.
Shawn Hook at home in Burnaby.
I first met Shawn at a SOCAN event last year in Vancouver, and shortly after that we got together at his place for the shoot. One particular item that caught my eye at his place was a Guinness World Record - yes, while growing up in Nelson, B.C. he discovered he an aptitude for standing on a Swiss Exercise Ball, and went on to certifiably set the World Record of several hours.
We had a great hangout and drank a couple of beers out in the sun. As we were finishing up, he had to get the vacuum out to tidy up a bit but needed to empty it out first. Well didn't we look like a couple of neanderthals attempting to figure out how to change the filter on the Dyson! Thankfully there is no video of that (brute force turned out to be the solution).
Many thanks to Shawn for having me over and best of luck to him on his recent move down South.
Be sure to check out his website for all things Shawn Hook. He will be performing on the upcoming Much Music Video awards and at the Pemberton Music Festival.
