Devil in Ohio? Try the devil in Vancouver, instead.
While the hit Netflix horror series has the American state in its title, the lion's share of filming locations is in the Lower Mainland.
The dark, disturbing thriller is about a teen girl called Mae (Canadian actress Madeleine Arthur, Big Eyes) who escapes a satanic cult and ends up in the care of her psychiatrist (American actress Emily Deschanel, Bones), who is already the mother of three girls. Although the girl has escaped the highly secretive, sadistic cult, she bears a disturbing physical wound as well as deep emotional trauma.
The show is adapted from the novel of the same name by Daria Polatin; it is based on true events.
The gripping series has been on Netflix's top 10 trending shows for a few weeks now, keeping viewers at the edges of their seats with its suspenseful narrative and chilling scenes. It is an ideal show to binge heading into the spooky season, too.
The popular show wasn't filmed in the United States, however, despite its title. In fact, you might recognize some of the locations of scenes in its episodes — all of them were filmed in B.C.
You will spot locations in the City of Vancouver, at 21122 at 12 Ave. in Langley, and 8825 Northbrook Ct. in Burnaby, according to Imdb.com.
One of the scenes was also filmed at the Poppy Estate Golf Course in Aldergrove.
Looking for a scary movie or series to watch that was filmed locally?
There's no shortage of locally filmed TV shows and feature flicks filmed in Hollywood North — whether they are of the spooky persuasion or not.
If you're looking to stream your festive features, there are also several good scary movies on Netflix to binge this Halloween.
American filmmaker Mike Flanagan's enormously popular Netflix series Midnight Mass was filmed in several B.C. locations, including around Stanley Park and in Richmond's Steveston area.
Looking to the future, Flanagan will bring his spooky prowess to the small screen once again, trying his hand at adapting works from one of the greatest literary figures into a mysterious mini-series for Netflix.
The Fall of the House of Usher is a short story written by American playwright, poet, and novelist, Edgar Allan Poe. Like many of the writer's works, the story centres around Gothic and dark themes.
The show filmed scenes at the Holy Rosary Cathedral located at 646 Richards St. in Downtown Vancouver.
Other popular horror movies to enjoy include Jennifer's Body, It, Freddy vs. Jason, and the Exorcism of Emily Rose.
